Do their products contain allergens?
Simple Mills products are free of 6 of the Big 8 allergens. All of their
products contain Tree Nuts (in the form of almonds and/or coconuts) and
some contain Dairy (they use organic milk in their Farmhouse Cheddar
cracker). All Simple Mills products comply with industry standards for
allergen controls, which includes segregating allergens during
ingredient storage and production, conducting full allergen cleans
between production runs, and testing for allergens on manufacturing
equipment before use.
Are the baking mix nutrition facts for the mix only, or for the prepared products?
The nutrition facts that are listed on the boxes only include the dry
mix. Any added ingredients, such as eggs, oil, and other mix-ins may
alter the nutritional information.
What can you use as an egg replacement?
In place of eggs, they recommend using apple sauce (in muffins, pancakes
and cakes only). For each egg, use 1/4 cup applesauce + 1/2 tsp baking
powder. You could also try your hand making flax eggs.
**Please note: their mixes that call for eggs turn out best with
eggs. Using an egg replacement may slightly change the taste or texture.
Can you use a different oil than what is recommended on the box?
For the most part you can, but you should consider flavor when choosing
your oils. Coconut oil, for example, has a slight coconut flavor, olive
oil lends a slightly savory flavor.
Is there corn, tapioca, or any other ingredients in the powdered sugar in their frosting?
In their frosting, they use organic powdered sugar that comes from pure
cane sugar. There is no corn, tapioca, or any other ingredients in the
powdered sugar.
